How Does Semaglutide Work?
Semaglutide is a once a week injection that is typically given into your subcutaneous fat in your stomach. Semaglutide mimics the actions of glucagon-like peptide 1 or GLP-1. GLP-1 targets areas in the brain that regulate your appetite.
Semaglutide tells your brain you are full with smaller amounts of food. Semaglutide also slows down digestion which allows you to feel fuller for longer.
In conjunction with a healthy eating plan and consistent weight training and exercise, use of Semaglutide can help you to make behavioral changes toward your optimal health and wellness.
We Will Help You Measure Your Progress
You will meet with your medical team at least once every 4 weeks in office or via televisit. If needed, you can meet every week to help with accountability. We will assess your progress with use of a smart scale, tape measure, blood pressure measures, and photos. We also assess labs during your journey.
How Do You Administer Semaglutide?
Semaglutide is given as a once-a-week injection, typically in the belly fat. Semaglutide will need to be drawn up from a vial using an insulin syringe. This type of syringe has a very small needle, offering comfort during the injection.
When taking Semaglutide, we recommend taking at night to help diminish any GI upset. Semaglutide can be taken with or without food. You will want to take Semaglutide on the same day, however there are times when the day of the week may need to change. As long as it has been at least two days since last dose, you can change the weekly injection day.
What Are The Side Effects Of Semaglutide?
Semaglutide is typically well-tolerated but can come with some side effects. Side effects do tend to improve the longer you are on Semaglutide. Most common side effects of Semaglutide include:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
- Abdominal pain
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Dyspepsia
- Dizziness
- Belching
- Flatulence
- Abdominal distention
- Gastroenteritis
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease
Dosing appropriately, increasing dose slowly, eating smaller portions, decreasing fat intake, taking magnesium and B12 can definitely help decrease side effects.

4. Once labs have been resulted, we will call you to set up the consultation to go over your lab results and recommendations.
5. You decide the best plan for you, then medication and supplies will be shipped to your home.
